Brake Free Along the Coast of Atlantic Canada

To celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, Parks Canada Discovery Passes are free of charge to allow unlimited opportunities to explore the country’s best national parks. For cyclists that means access to some of Atlantic Canada’s most beautiful coastal cycling trails in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. From May through to October, the Provinces are awash with colour and an abundance of wildlife making it the perfect time to explore the varied landscape, from sandy beaches to rugged cliffs, whether a professional or a beginner.

Fundy Trail, New Brunswick

New Brunswick’s Fundy Trail is a veritable rollercoaster of heady cliff top heights along the Bay of Fundy to the striking sandy Long Beach. Cycling enthusiasts will be rewarded with breath-taking views and for the more adventurous there is a challenging off-road dust trail to explore. The biking trails are also ideal for nature-lovers, who may even be lucky enough to spot whales breaching out of the sea from certain areas.

Acadian Peninsula, New Brunswick

Cycling and joie de vivre go hand in hand on New Brunswick’s Acadian Peninsula, with a range of routes covering the Province’s north eastern shores. The new Véloroute takes cyclists from sea views through fields, forests and lively towns which offer essential refuelling at one of the numerous seafood shacks.

Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland and Labrador

Fall head over handlebars with the Avalon Peninsula on the southern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador. Named the number one coastal destination in the world by National Geographic, the route from the capital, St. John’s, leads cyclists towards the ocean with highlights including plentiful bird life, fabulous coastal scenery and whale and iceberg sightings. It’s worth bearing in mind this 270 mile stretch is not for the faint-hearted.
