Tour the Newly Expanded Beaverbrook Art Gallery
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery was first opened to the public on September 16, 1959. It was gifted to
the people of New Brunswick from Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Maxwell Aitken, a New Brunswicker who
was a member of Sir Winston Churchill’s cabinet as well as the First Baron of Fleet Street. Since Lord
Beaverbrook opened this Gallery, its collection has grown to approximately 6,000 works of art, and it
has continued to develop and produce engaging, exciting, and enriching exhibitions and programs that
have been seen at home, across Canada, and internationally.
Situated strategically between the St John River and the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the new
wing, being named in honour of Harrison McCain, another prominent New Brunswicker and
remarkable Canadian; cofounder of the McCain French Fry empire. Like Beaverbrook, Harrison McCain
was both world class businessman and a passionate New Brunswicker. This new wing is a fitting tribute
for McCain’s profound impact on Canadian business.
