Celebrate Anne of Green Gables’ L.M. Montgomery

Visitors to Prince Edwards Island have two opportunities to commemorate the illustrious author, L.M. Montgomery, who penned the acclaimed novel Anne of Green Gables.

Best known as the fictional home of Anne Shirley, Green Gables Heritage Place, with its lanes and pathways and gorgeous surrounding countryside, served as an inspiration for the setting of the famous novel. Guests can immerse themselves in the story’s landscape and relive her youthful adventures by touring the memory-filled rooms in her home. Then, guests must visit the newly rehabilitated site, which includes a visitor centre with an exhibit hall and updated interpretive elements.

Visitors can then venture to the newest park in Cavendish, Montgomery Park, to view an exquisite statue of L.M. Montgomery in a moment of inspiration. A cross-collaboration between artists in Prince Edwards Island and British Columbia, Grace Curtis of Summerside supplied sketches for the statue, and B.C Sculptor Nathan Scott cast the images in bronze. The park, which opened just this summer, includes a literary trail that connects visitors to L.M. Montgomery experiences.
