Celebrate with the locals in Atlantic Canada in 2015

Atlantic Canada is a region famed for its stunning scenery and delicious seafood.  Formed of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, the area is packed full of events over the coming months.  Visitors can immerse themselves in culture native to the provinces, including the Shediac Lobster Festival in New Brunswick and the Fall Flavours Festival on Prince Edward Island.

 

NEW BRUNSWICK

FIFA Women’s World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup comes to Canada this summer, and Moncton, New Brunswick is one of six host cities across Canada for this international tournament. Moncton will host seven matches in twelve days including England’s first match, England vs. France, on the 9th June at the Moncton Coliseum. Moncton is the smallest city venue and it is the first time hosting an international event of this caliber; the atmosphere in the city will be buzzing, the city is ready to welcome the world.

Shediac Lobster Festival
The annual Shediac Lobster Festival draws crowds from across the world for five days of delicious seafood and entertainment. From 8th – 12th July 2015, the lobster capital of the world invites visitors to feast on lobster, soak up Acadian Culture and celebrate its 66th year. A brave few can compete against the clock to eat three lobsters with their bare hands. New in 2015 is the “For the Love of Lobster” experience that includes a visit to a lobster hatchery with a marine biologist, access to all festival events including the live music entertainment, and an evening sunset lobster dinner cruise.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Iceberg Festival
The annual Iceberg Festival takes place on the Great Northern Peninsula and celebrates the coming of spring in the north and the annual parade of icebergs. Revelers can party with the locals, enjoy music and fresh seafood, dip their toes in the ocean or get on the water with many of the boat tours that are available. The festival will take place from the 5th – 14th June 2015.

St. John’s Time
St. John’s Time, taking place from the 30th July – the start of George Street Festival – to the 9th August, an eleven day mega-festival including a whole host of activities including street parties, boat racing on the Quidi Vidi lake, musical entertainment and acrobats. The George Street Festival, Royal St John’s Regatta, St John’s Downtown Buskers Festival and Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival are the four mini-festivals making up the overall celebrations.

NOVA SCOTIA

Celtic Colours International Festival
Reeling fiddles, the strumming of guitars and singing voices will welcome visitors to the dance floor at the variety of concerts taking place during this party of Celtic music and culture. For nine days in October, from 9th – 17th October 2015, Cape Breton Island will come alive with the autumn colours while people flock from all sides to join the celebrations.

Nova Scotia Open
Visit Halifax from the 2nd – 6th July for the chance to walk the course with the top PGA golfers and the future golf stars of tomorrow at the Nova Scotia Open. The four day event features 156 international players and is a fierce competition between the golfing elite in the pursuit of $650,000.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
In spring things really start to heat up in Prince Edward Island; the Ceilidh at the Irish Hall begins in May, and the College of Piping in Summerside hosts the annual Highland Gathering. Then, it is pretty well non-stop party time until October, so be sure you are ready for an entertaining vacation when you plan your Island visit.
