Dine on the Ocean Floor in Nova Scotia
The Bay of Fundy, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of North America, is home to a plethora of unique tourist experiences, from tidal bore rafting to walking along the ocean floor just a few hours later. None is more special than the ‘Dining on the Ocean Floor’ package, offered by Flying Apron Inn and Cookery School this summer.
This culinary experience on the Bay of Fundy, sees diners enjoying local seafood, beef, wine, craft beer, cheese and charcuterie at Burntcoat Head Park, the site of the world’s highest recorded tides. During their six hour experience, guests will take advantage of the tide’s ebb to forage for ingredients before enjoying an intimate four-course meal on the very seabed that six hours later, will be covered in 56 metres of seawater.
During the afternoon, guests will have the chance to pull on their wellies, take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy time with foraging expert Jonathan Newell, who will introduce them to the natural edibles that grow within the park and around the lighthouse. They will also be privy to a private tour of the ocean floor, where they will spot fossils, tidal pool creatures, and see first-hand the impact of the powerful tides on the coastline.
The meal, served on perfectly-laid tables as the sun sets, includes Shore Boil, a bowl brimming with the freshest Nova Scotia seafood prepared using local award-winning Avondale Sky wine. The Celebration Plate offers up local hand-made cheeses and charcuterie, whilst the High Tide/Low Tide main course features succulent pasture-raised beef, butter poached Nova Scotia lobster tail and succotash with organic vegetables, topped with foraged greens. Desert includes delicious fresh local berries, lavender phyllo and Grand Marnier infused mascarpone cream.
The day ends with a campfire on the tidal flats as the last of the sun sets and the unique experience comes to a close. This exclusive dining experience is perfect for couples or groups with a special occasion to celebrate, who will leave with the bragging rights of experiencing this one-of-a-kind world class experience.
