Iceberg Viewing in Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the most spectacular destinations in the world for viewing icebergs. Each spring these glacial giants float down from the coast of western Greenland and appear off the shores of this beautiful easterly province. International travel may still be at a standstill, and travellers may be unable to see these frozen giants up-close, but now is the perfect time to start planning a trip of a lifetime to this incredible region.

From Twillingate to Bonavista, Fogo to Cape Spear, the opportunities to see these incredible glacial sculptures are seemingly endless. During late spring and early summer, tour boats, zodiacs, and even kayaks promise iceberg fanatics the opportunity to experience these marvels of nature up close. Or perhaps a coastal hike along spectacular shoreline is in order. All offer a unique perspective of these magnificent formations, sculpted by nature and set against the backdrop of Newfoundland and Labrador’s charming coastal towns and fishing villages. During iceberg season, there’s even a website www.IcebergFinder.com that plots the bergs on a map so travellers can identify where best to see these magnificent bergs as they travel through Iceberg Alley.

Newfoundland and Labrador is also one of the few places in the world to receive simultaneous visits from whales, seabirds, and icebergs. As the whales and birds migrate north and the icebergs sail south, visitors are in with a chance to experience all three of these wonderful sights in one trip. Available to download is a handy map containing the viewing highlights of all three giving explorers the best chance to witness the spectacular triple play of whales, seabirds, and icebergs.

Icebergs aren’t just great for viewing, travellers can also enjoy one of the many tipples local businesses produce such as iceberg beer, vodka, gin and even rum. For a little taste of an iceberg adventure now, why not try a mouth-watering Iceberg vodka martini, made up of a dash of dry vermouth and Iceberg vodka, available for purchase in the UK.
