Louisbourg300 Celebrations in Nova Scotia
Join us in 2013 for Louisbourg300, a grand fête marking the 300th anniversary of the founding of Ile Royale – modern day Cape Breton Island – with Louisbourg as its capital. Be there when Louisbourg again comes alive: celebrate 300 years of triumph and survival through special activities and never-before-seen events. Join us as vibrant cultures meet diverse heritage and awe-inspiring vistas in a celebration of sea and stories, music and military, community and cuisine. It’s the Fortress of Louisbourg like you’ve never experienced it before. Here’s a sample of what we have planned:
• CultureFête – In July 2013, a cultural fair will spill into the streets of Louisbourg. This festive fair will recreate the bustling, multicultural, harbourside market that was a daily part of life in 18th century Louisbourg.
• Rendez-vous Louisbourg – For decades, the harbour was the lifeblood of the Fortress of Louisbourg; a bustling place where tiny fishing chaloupes and large merchant vessels jockeyed for position, transporting the very goods that the community depended on for survival. In August 2013, the Louisbourg harbour will again come alive and fill with the spirit of the sea, as vessels of all shapes and sizes embark on a stunning parade of lights celebrating our region’s treasured maritime traditions.
• LouisRocks – Louisbourg will rock with the sounds of many types of music. From baroque to contemporary, watch musicians as they perform on one of the most phenomenal stages in Canada – the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site.
