Visit Luxurious Algonquin Resort in New Brunswick

After just over a £16.3million (CAD$30million) year-long transformation, the Algonquin Resort in the Atlantic Canadian province of New Brunswick has reopened its doors just in time for the hotel’s 125th anniversary.

The first Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel in Canada, The Algonquin Resort overlooks the picturesque Passamaquoddy Bay from St Andrews-by-the-Sea. New additions to the 234-room, Tudor-style property include balcony suites which start from £138 per night on a bed and breakfast basis, indoor pool, outdoor hot tubs and outdoor Pavilion, as well as a revitalised clubhouse.

As one of Canada’s most luxurious and legendary resorts, generations of travellers have been visiting the Algonquin for more than a century. Built in 1889, much care has been taken to restore the iconic property including the restoration of the castle-like facade to its original splendour.

Guests can enjoy the Algonquin Resort all year round and stroll the manicured lawns, sip a cocktail on the historic veranda or relax on the resort’s private beach.

The Algonquin has also put together a range of experiences to make it easier for visitors to explore the beautiful surroundings. Families can visit the Kingsbrae gardens with its petting zoo and head to Katy’s Cove in the afternoon for sand and surf. Meanwhile, couples can enjoy breakfast in bed before taking advantage of the complimentary bicycles and a gourmet picnic to explore the charming backdrop. Keen golfers can take advantage of the 7,000-yard, par 72 course which was redesigned in 2000 by well-known course architect Thomas McBroom. The course is also home to Canada’s oldest clubhouse built in 1894 and boasts stunning views of the rugged coastline of the Bay of Fundy – home to the highest tides in the world.
